Wonderful Armyman Accessories
The BMC Classic Marx Axis Ambush is a reissue of some iconic accessories from the legendary Louis Marx Company Battleground playsets that first appeared in the 1950s. You get eight barbed wire fences, three ruined buildings, and three pillboxes. The barbed wire fences are made of a durable soft plastic, and lock together so you can make longer stretches of barbed wire fencing as obstacles for plastic infantry. The ruined buildings (really the shattered doorway of a bombed out structure) and the pillboxes are made of a stiffer but still sturdy plastic. Between them, they provide plenty of cover and firing spots for plastic soldiers. All these accessories are perfectly scaled for plastic figures in the 54 mm or 1/32 range, and will work for all the armymen you can purchase from BMC or find in the stores. These terrain pieces are beautifully detailed and will really dress up a toy battlefield or a diorama. With this set you get a lot of play value for your money.

Perfect Recasts!
These are recasts of original Marx Battleground pieces, and are of the same, if not better, quality! These are slightly softer plastic than some of the vintage originals I own, but honestly preferable to solid, hard-plastic! Great quantity of pillbox bunkers to fill with German troops and destroyed buildings to give your GIs cover. The barbed wire in the brown set comes in a nice silver. Easily a must-have for Marx Battleground collectors and those looking for good army men accessories!

Son loves it.
Nice durable good size pieces. They stand well & you have a good variety. Assembly is pretty self explanatory and your kid will want to change it up anyway. Good value.

Creative Packaging/Marketing to Enhance Play
Additional features, equipment, and objects that enhance play can augment a child's experience. The toy company appears to be reusing various molds and packaging them to facilitate various sets. For example, I believe the door thresholds were are one time part of the 1960 Marx Civil War play sets, which is fine. Toy companies need to be creative in the presentation, marketing, and use of their products. I appreciate that the manufacturer makes them available for kid's play today. Making defenses and incorporating the features into the landscape is a good cognitive developmental skill for children, exploring alternatives and making planning and design decisions. I have watched children also develop strategies for soldier assault based on the location of features they have placed in their play setting. With these sets, kids learn and do much more than just have simplistic battles. These enhancing play sets can add to the complexity of play and thinking for kids, which in turn makes it more fun for children.
