Joe Abercrombie First Law & World Of The First Law Series 6 Books Collection Set

These six books are formed by a trilogy followed by three standalones in Joe Abercrombie's excellent First Law world. At first the books seem to start off with a standard fantasy trope of a quest to find a magical object led by a friendly wizard, but things quickly start going off the rails and the true story behind is revealed. Abercrombie crafts three dimensional characters who are flawed and all too human and I ended up genuinely caring what happened to them. It's no spoiler to say that things never end 'happy ever after'. There is magic in this world, but it has a realism to it. There's good humour here too. I've read all nine books, and a short story collection, published so far in just a few months. One of the best talents working in the UK today.

Absolutely incredible series! The characters are so well-developed, and their actions are believable. The first trilogy, The First Law, is one large story, told by several of the characters’ perspectives. The second trilogy, The Great Leveler, consists of three separate stories set in the same world, and contains a mix of old and new faces, with a few shocking surprises along the way. If you’re a fan of action, political intrigue, or character-driven storytelling, this set is for you.

This series was recommended to me by a dear friend, a friend who's opinion on books seems to align pretty well with my own tastes. I am very pleased with his recommendation. Grim Dark Fantasy Being in the U.S. I am a little confused in getting copies of these books that seem to be intended for the European market, I didn't think that this was supposed to happen, maybe I am wrong?

First of all, know that I have read this series several times before I added it to my personal library. Saw it on Amazon and had to have it. The books came uniform which is nice to look at when sitting on a shelf, and they came undamaged.

After reading all 6 books on ebook for the last 5 years, I can say the actual ones are a 1000% better. The feel of the paper, the smell of the bindings, and the glorious prose of Joe Abercrombie ensure these books will experience much fondling over the coming decades.
