Q: Does this provide a steady drum beat to help a guitarist keep time?

No...you would need to connect it to the BEAT BUDDY first. It is only a switch that uses a TRS stereo plug.

Q: Can this be used for other purposes? Like could it be connected to a computer or light to enable foot controls?

I have not tried but the spec says for use with the BeatBuddy or anywhere a dual momentary footswitch is needed

Not a momentary switch, and it does make a soft connection sound. I use mine for live performance, so that's not an issue for me. Not sure if it would become an issue for recording.

Q: Can u record hour self playing one thing then play something elss alone 2 it ?

This is just a footswitch that can be used with a variety of products (though it was made to accompany the Beat Buddy). By itself, it does nothing, it needs to be used with another device.
